Email et·i·quette - s

An email conversation between 2 colleagues..

Shalini: PLS FOLLOW UP ON THE LEAD (attaches the lead to the colleague)

AC (replies with cc to the bosses and his team mate):
Shalini, I would just like to point it out to you that as per the email etiquettes, an email with Bold letters is considered as rude and conveys Shouting.

Can you please explain the reason behind sending an email with all bold letters for my understanding?

Regards,

Shalini (stunned and dont know what hit her):
AC

First of all, its not in bold. I just checked my sent box, its not bold just caps.

The caps lock must have been on without my knowledge. It was just a general mail like all my other mail to you have been. Thank you for bringing it to my notice...shalini

AC: Thanks for the clarification. I meant mail with CAPS/BOLD on is suppose to be rude.

We will follow up on the lead and will keep you updated. - AC

Then a reply out of nowhere from one of the bosses who was cc'd in the mails:
AC,

I don’t think such conversations warrants any copies to be sent to seniors like me and SM and also to juniors like TN. Such small issues are at best resolved between colleagues one on one instead of trying to create a big issue out of it. I saw the email trail, and it is quite apparent that Shalini had typed with the Caps lock on. In my 21 years of professional career have also often written such internal emails to colleagues in a hurry with caps lock on and without salutations and greetings but have never seen anyone reacting like this. Between colleagues we should have that much of understanding between us unless we are exposing any ugly face of personal enmities which I am sure as professionals we should never preach nor practice.

I hope that if you have any interpersonal frictions, you will resolve them within yourselves.

Regards - BOSS

Shalini: More Stunned and Stumped! Feeling so guilty that the boss has to write such a mail... no food and supper tonite :) Though I did go and watch Made Of Honour with the kids. Patrick Dempsey is so so cute...

But in hindsight, I know its my fault. The blame will ultimately be dumped on my head. Sigh. Such is life..
